Want to be a pickleball referee? Check out this referee clinic on October 7th

Refereeing goes a long way in helping players understand the game of pickleball at the kind of level one might not otherwise. It will definitely improve your play.

Students are asked to do some prep work before coming to a referee clinic. To do this go to usapickleball.org website, become a member if you are not already one, open the get involved pull down window, select officiating, watch the quick start video, read the official rulebook, the rulebook change document and the officiating handbook.

The reading is pretty easy and most of you know the rules. You can download both handbooks. You just need to familiarize yourself, Ed Johnson is awesome at explaning the process, how to keep score and check for foot faults.

You are welcome to come practice at Veterans Park during open play. At Veterans we are dedicated to helping players learn. We have score sheets, clip boards, pencils and we are happy to assist.

Woodbridge Pickleball Club at Stonebridge’s Fall Festival

Woodbridge Pickleball Club at Stonebridge’s Fall Festival

WPC Vice President Tom Konicki and Board Member Mike Kline with Woodbridge District Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin

The Woodbridge Pickleball Club was well-represented at Stonebridge’s Fall Festival! From 11am-4:30pm, at least two dozen club members staffed the booth, played demo games, ran mini-intro-to-pickleball lessons, and built excitement around pickleball in Prince William County.

Directly behind the booth, the club set up a temporary court allowing festival-goers to grab a paddle and try dinking or even a full game! It’s amazing how some folks who have never played pickleball can so quickly pick up on the game and play some intense rallies. They’re absolutely hooked so look forward to seeing them on the courts soon!

Thank you to our many volunteers who spent their Saturday promoting the sport of pickleball!

Club Members Teach Prince William County School Gym Teachers About Pickleball

Club Members Teach Prince William County School Gym Teachers About Pickleball

The Woodbridge Pickleball Club was recently invited to participate in the physical education teachers’ staff development day at Gar-Field Senior High School. Over 25 club members volunteered up to 3 hours of their time to run pickleball stations on skills and games such as How to Serve, Dingles, and Four Square.

Each session was one-hour in length and began with a welcome from WPC board member Carroll Williams, Woodbridge USAP ambassador Barbara Tyrrell, WPC board president Nick Katsarelis, and local pickleball pro Jay ‘Gizmo’ Hall.

Several hundred gym teachers learned more about pickleball and how to include pickleball as part of their curriculum. Woodbridge Pickleball Club members are available to assist PWCS teachers when introducing pickleball to their students. Please use the Contact Us form to request assistance.
